I'm exercising and taking vitamins – why am I not losing weight?
For about 3 weeks I have been taking lots of supplements and have been exercising – at least 3 times a week I’ve been jogging for 30 minutes in the morning. Before I exercise I take a multivitamin, fish oil capsules, 2 Fastin caplets, 2 Tonalin capsules, and sometimes some Acai tablets. If I have time at night I might spend 30 minutes doing Wii Fit strength training or yoga.
The Fastin gives me noticeable energy and helps me during my workout but I haven’t lost any weight.
My eating habits haven’t changed drastically, but I do tend to watch what I eat. I eat peanut butter toast or oatmeal or cereal for breakfast. I have cut out caffeine. I don’t drink soda. I sometimes go out for lunch (that could be the problem) but I try to buy something with lean meat and vegetables. And for dinner I also try to have something that contains meat and vegetables. For snacks I might have some nuts or a granola bar or fruit.
Any tips would be great! Thanks.
For context – I am 5′5", over 160 lbs and have a medium-large frame.

Everyone is different, but for me to lose weight, I have to exercise a lot more than you’re doing; about an hour a day, at least 5 to 6 days a week. And it’s moderately vigorous exercise.
But I’ve found over and over that I don’t lose weight from exercising alone…I also have to diet, and diet hard. I count calories (and don’t worry about "fat calories" or "carbs", etc.) and cut my diet down to about 1,000 to 1,200 calories a day. It isn’t easy, but it isn’t all that hard either. Counting calories is a bit of a nuisance and "old school" dieting, but it works for me.
Anyway, on that routine I steadily lose 2 to 3 pounds a week.
Good luck!

Because it’s only 3 weeks, losing weight takes a lot of patience, you won’t see big results quickly, it may take months to get decent results.

My best advice is to keep at it. If you can, intensify or lengthen your workouts. Also, when eating out before you start to eat divide the dish into 2-3 even portions and only allow yourself to eat one of those portions (in addition continue to try and pick the healthiest options). Good luck!

well if you exercise, you’re not going to lose weight, but that’s not bad! you’re going to turn your extra fat into muscle, and that’s what’s good. and once you turn it into muscle it will be easier to lose weight in the future. don’t try to lose weight so fast.

the first few weeks it is possible that you have grown a LITTLE muscle…. this is a good thing because muscle increases your metabolism…. I’d put $543 on you losing substantial weight in the following weeks…. 3 weeks isn’t long enough.
If i was your friend, i’d be real proud of you in taking the supplements, i believe everyone should be on fish oil and multivitamins for life…. Your doing extremely well, keep it up (i’m usually an anushole for these type of questions, but you have impressed me)…. Rock ON! Champion!

"my eating habits havent changed dramatically" there is the key. losing weight is done by diet not exercise. i started doing weights hard and 45min on eliptical (weight loss setting) and didnt lose any weight. When i cut the fat and sugar i lost 30lbs. one high fat meal will negate all the work you do in the gym. the peanut butter and nuts are high in fat.

the food intake is key. try to cut 300-400 calories from you BMR (basal metabolic rate). heres how you can calculate that http://www.weight-loss-center.net/basal_metabolic_rate.html

Youre eating too much. Try a 1200-1500 calorie a day diet and STICK to it. Stop taking all those drugs. How do you think youre going to lose fat by eating the same? You can work out all day long and you’ll just eat more to fill yourself.
The people selling you those pills want you to think you can take a pill to lose weight, its not rocket science you must EAT less than you BURN. Period.

i really have no idea because i have never really tried to lose weight. you might not be losing weight and instead gaining muscle. good luck and good job for keeping it up for so long!

okay, 3 weeks isn’t enough time, but in time you continue not to lose weight, then you should probably think about cutting back if u are doing too rigerous of muscular workouts, and instead run more… and don’t do diets!!!!

Maybe try to give yourself 6 small meals throughout the day to try and boost your metabolism a little bit. Or cut down on the snaking and just have your meals.

Have you tried walking daily? I stopped shedding weight when I began taking a multivitamin… and I had been working out at the gym 4x a week. I then brought it down to 3x a week but began walking daily, and that got things going again.
Another thing is, don’t deprive yourself too much when it comes to food. You need to eat in order for your metabolism to continue working for you. I know you said your eating habits haven’t changed much, so I’m glad to hear that but try eating a big healthy breakfast and then cut down your lunch and even more so for dinner.
If your body is hungry… you must feed it.

There’s no point in going on a diet if it’s just lasting for a short period. Only a change of eating habits for life is meaningful when it comes to loosing weight. There is no need to reduce the calorie intake to less than the body requires, it is sufficient to just remove the superfluous intake. It takes calories to keep a body big and heavy. If you cut down on these calories you will lose weight gradually. Thus the food intake when loosing weight need not be less than that required to maintain an ideal weight.
The best diet is one that the individual is happy with and which provides all the necessary nutrition. It is important to learn to identify satisfaction and hunger and only eat as a response to physical hunger and not use food as a drug to reduce anxiety. More
You could, of course, have a look at diet suggestions by "Weight Watchers" and others and use the parts which appeal to you most. It is essential that the individual make choices of food that is most appealing and not eaten only for nutritional value, as this may later result in attacks of compulsive eating.
Examples of good food:
* Fish, lean meat
* Berries
* Onions, spinach, aubergine, broccoli, cauliflower, green beens, sprouts, salad, olives, avocado, cucumber, pimiento, leek.
Many overweight individuals put on weight gradually. Some may accept a weight of 90 kg but not 120 or 150 kg. Sooner or later they come to a point where they can no longer accept their weight, for example when illness sets in.
A person who eats 100 k cal too many a day for 10 years will gain 50 kg. Great changes in diet are not needed in order to produce considerable changes in the long term.
